2017 Volunteers of the Year

Seven Loaves honors Jane Kates and Ed Kovac with the 2017 George Lengauer Volunteer Service Award!

Jane has been a faithful and very active Volunteer for four years, working Pantry shifts two days a week, proving a mainstay at food drives and special events and generously, albeit anonymously, stepping up to the plate whenever she spots a need that we might meet. Her manner with Patrons is gracious and kind and personal and she unfailingly exhibits a practical, immediate, non-judgmental and energetic spirit that has earned the respect of all the other Volunteers.

Ed's professional expertise in organizational effectiveness, policy and procedure development and control and performance oversight is on exhibit every week at the Friday shift, when he leads the Volunteers in providing consistency efficient but equally compassionate and personal service. Ed has also been instrumental in developing and implementing practical inventory control and delivery measures, record keeping modifications and staffing recommendations and has performed county wide and Patron specific research and analysis on our behalf, so that we might better serve our population. He is the first to spot a child in the waiting room who needs a juice box, to take immediate and personal steps to fill Pantry needs and to offer up a bit of humor to the other Volunteers at just the right, very busy and potentially overwhelming moment.
