Renowned acoustic guitarists Speidel, Goodrich, Goggin and Lille (SGGL) to play at Blackthorne Inn in Upperville, VA at a concert benefiting Seven Loaves Services Food Bank
On October 2, 2009—the Friday evening before Middleburg’s Virginia Fall Races—renowned acoustic guitarists, Speidel, Goodrich, Goggin and Lille (SGGL) from Charlottesville, will play a benefit concert in support of the Seven Loaves Food Bank in Upperville, Virginia.
Hosted by the historic Blackthorne Inn & Restaurant, a place once owned by George Washington, the event is scheduled to start at 7.00PM. A menu of tasty hors d’oevres will be included with the price of admission, and a cash bar will be available. Located off Route 50 in the heart of Virginia’s famed Hunt Country, the Blackthorne Inn is an ideal setting for a Fall weekend concert.
Patricia and Melchior Baltazar of Philomont, Virginia, who helped organize the benefit concert, said: “Seven Loaves is an organization that all of us in the Middleburg community remember throughout the year. Small efforts occur every Sunday when area churches collect food donations. Larger efforts happen during the holidays and back-to-school time. We thought it would be exciting and meaningful to create an event that would make a big difference to Seven Loaves for the simple reason that we care … and we can. With local families enthusiastically working together, and with the help of the Blackthorne Inn and a well-known Virginia band - SGGL - we are planning to make a significant contribution to an organization that quietly supports families in need.”
According to the Washington Post, SGGL are “immensely talented acoustic guitarists. … Typically, an SGGL show is designed to capitalize on both ensemble and individual talents, so that the lineup on stage is constantly changing. The solo turns are natural, since each member of the group started out as a ‘stool-sitting acoustic guitarist’ playing college coffeehouses and covering songs by James Taylor, Jackson Browne and Crosby, Stills and Nash.”
Anna Small Billman, a local resident and University of Virginia alumni, whose father is also a musician, said she was excited to hear that SGGL was coming to play in Upperville. “They are fantastic singers,” she said. “Theirs is good-time music. They are high-energy and infectious, and they make you want to dance and sing along. And all for a great cause!”
